Exploring Pötenitzer Wiek by Boat with the MS Hansa
The Pötenitzer Wiek, part of the Traveförde, is a coastal inlet on the border of Holstein and Mecklenburg. Connected to the Untertrave and Dassower See, this brackish water area features diverse landscapes and rich wildlife.
Formed by glacial erosion, the shallow waters are surrounded by reed beds and salt meadows, creating a calm and scenic environment. The Priwall Peninsula acts as a natural barrier, giving the area a sheltered, lagoon-like character.
As part of a protected nature reserve, the region is home to various bird species. The area also has historical significance, with remains of an early 20th-century seaplane base still visible.
