Description
For many years, the University and State Library Darmstadt has been offering several RDM services within and for the NFDI in various contexts (NFDI4ING, Base4NFDI, and a number of DFG-funded projects) – and beyond this, for example within the Hessian FDM state initiative, HeFDI. Like all service providers, we are faced with the question of how to ensure the long-term sustainability of these project-funded services and offerings, how to reconcile different project durations, and how to secure reliable funding for staff and retain them. All of this takes place against the backdrop of the NFDI’s reorganisation from 2028 onwards and the process of finding the right position for a medium-sized library within the NFDI’s future operational network.
The presentation sets out our general pragmatic approach, our specific approach to operational models and various examples of these, including, amongst others,

The presentation focuses in particular on contractual issues and costing mechanisms as key areas of concern, and outlines ways in which the approach can be adapted and standardised, including in the context of the efforts to develop a strategy to build a national library infrastructure within the DFG-VIGO project ‘VESABI’ (https://www.bibliotheksverband.de/vesabi).
