Abstract (for poster):
MC4NFDI aims to establish a federated multicloud interconnecting compute and storage resources across different consortia and infrastructure providers, enabling seamless access, efficient use, and cross-domain collaboration. It thereby builds the foundation for cross-platform resource integration and contributes to the development of OneNFDI as the national EOSC node.
The overarching goal of MC4NFDI is to demonstrate the viability of building up cloud-based interoperability within the heterogeneous landscape of NFDI infrastructures. The basis for interconnecting cloud infrastructures lies within the mutual authentication of users. For this purpose, it is anticipated to facilitate the connection to the different domains based on IAM4NFDI. Once authentication and authorisation are handled, the actual deployment of resources, e.g., distinct virtual machines or submission to compute queues, represents the core challenge for this project. The initial plan is to seamlessly integrate infrastructure resources from PUNCH4NFDI, the de.NBI Cloud, and NHR centres. This is accompanied by storage resources from the DFG storage funding call. As research data management is the natural focus for Base4NFDI projects, one of the next tasks is the transfer, staging and replication of data through the heterogeneous infrastructures. The implementation of these tasks will make a core set of procedures and API requirements available. The primary goal is to develop a proof-of-concept combining the cloud resources of the participating NFDI consortia into an initial multicloud, together with a series of selected use cases to serve as demonstrators.
