Sustainability is a key concern for users and providers of RDM services alike. Thus in a community-driven endeavor like NFDI it is also a shared responsibility to make services sustainable. Yet, the one key mechanism to assure sustainability – “business models” – are often either considered boring, to be somebody else’s problem, or even anathema to the open science ideal. This session will make transparent, how current NFDI Basic Services plan for their sustainable operation. It will also take a broader perspective and look at different ways to operate and finance RDM services, discuss perspectives on different roles and responsibilities, and help raise a joint understanding of the relevance of designing who pays.
