The NFDI Overall Architecture Work Group, in collaboration with Base4NFDI, is pleased to invite you to its first workshop at GWDG in Göttingen!
This event is designed as a hands-on, collaborative working meeting to build a common solution. Together with you, the consortia members, we aim to consolidate existing NFDI architectures, identify commonalities of architectures, and define a way forward. A second workshop, expected in the second half of 2026, will finalize the architecture plan for OneNFDI, helping consortia plan their infrastructure strategies more effectively.
This Lunch-to-Lunch event is organized by Marius Politze and Philipp Wieder, in collaboration with Base4NFDI.
Target Group
This hands-on workshop is designed for representatives from all NFDI consortia who have a solid understanding of their consortium’s structure, architecture, and infrastructure. As the topics addressed are relevant to the entire NFDI community, the workshop aims to foster exchange and collaboration across all consortia.
Since the number of participant slots is limited, please note that each consortium/infrastructure working group/basic service is invited to nominate only one representative—ideally someone with a comprehensive overview of the consortium’s structure, architecture, and infrastructure, who can clearly explain these aspects and actively contribute to the discussions.
If we receive more than one registration for an organisation, we will contact the applicants.
If you’re unsure who would be most suitable to attend, please feel free to contact us for guidance.
We will provide a waiting list in case the limit is reached.
Workshop Objectives
During the workshop, participants will:
- Present and discuss consortium architectures – Flash talks will provide an overview of current approaches, enabling the identification of common components, patterns, and potential synergies across consortia.
- Explore overarching architectural topics – In a dedicated foundation session as well as in a barcamp session, participants will address cross-cutting issues, including:
- Results from the storage call
- Integration with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC)
- Service Portfolio
- other foundational topics relevant to consortium architectures
- Plan the development of architectural documentation – Participants will collaboratively identify which architectural documents should be produced, establish a roadmap for their preparation, and assign responsibilities for drafting and reviewing these documents.
Flash Talks
All participants are invited to give short flash talks on the architecture of their consortium.

Please use the provided template for your presentation. You can make a copy for your consortium in the folder or download the template and reupload it to the folder.
-
Upload your slides by November 25th to this folder.
-
Joint presentations by multiple consortia are welcome if they share a common architectural approach
Presentation Guidelines
Each consortium is asked to prepare 2–3 slides summarizing its architecture approach, covering aspects such as:
-
Infrastructures and platforms used
-
Data flow and storage solutions
-
Protocols and standards
-
Metadata management
-
Access and Identity management
- Gaps in Infrastructure
- etc.
Expected outcomes
