Description
Combining heterogeneous geoscience datasets across platforms, formats, and disciplines remains a persistent barrier to efficient reuse. This poster presents a user-centric infrastructure that combines the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) with FAIR Digital Objects (FDOs) to make data findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable across tools. Rather than navigating fragmented repositories, researchers interact with a single catalog of well-described objects, while IPFS ensures content-addressed, verifiable, and redundantly distributed storage in the background. We demonstrate the approach using the ORCESTRA (Organized Convection and EarthCARE Studies over the Tropical Atlantic) measurement campaign, integrating satellite observations, airborne and ground-based measurements, and climate model simulations into a single workflow. The infrastructure was designed around concrete researcher needs, such as comparing multi-source datasets within one interface. Our results show how combining IPFS and FDOs improves data integrity, interoperability, and reproducibility, offering a transferable model for data-intensive research beyond geoscience.
