Description

Modern scientific collaborations generate and consume data across a heterogeneous landscape of file storage systems, electronic lab notebooks (ELNs), and institutional databases. Ensuring that these data remain Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Re‑usable (FAIR) can be a technical challenge and put a significant burden on researchers.

In this hands‑on workshop participants experience how FAIR research data management can be achieved when different, integrated RDM tools play to their strength. The presented RDM landscape include an ELN (eLabFTW), a file storage with raw and metadata files, LinkAhead as a central semantic RDM tool and semi-automatic (meta-)data publication.

Participants will follow the full research life cycle, from data acquisition to publication, and learn:

  • How a dynamic data‑model allows semantic annotation using both existing metadata standards and extension with custom, use-case specific attributes
  • How out-of-the-box automation for data synchronization among RDM tools can be customized
  • How the integration enhances findability and accessibility of research data - including via natural language search

Target Audience

  • Researchers and project leaders managing heterogeneous data sources
  • Data stewards and librarians interested in FAIR RDM implementation
  • IT staff supporting research data services

Prerequisites

  • Generic understanding of the goals of FAIR RDM.
