In 1960s, Bass constructed lower algebraic K groups, which extends the
Bass-Heller-Swan theorem and thus serves as an important role of
computing the algebraic K groups of polynomial extensions. In 1980s,
Pedersen and Weibel gives another way of interpreting the lower K
groups using bounded category, which gives a unified way of
definitions. Furthermore, the bounded category has many applications in
topology of non compact manifolds. In this talk, I will briefly
introduce the lower K groups and the bounded category and discuss some
first applications
