The research symposium “Land Use Under Climate Change – Learning From and With Latin America by Combining Natural and Social Science Perspectives Across Spatio-Temporal Scales” at the University of Göttingen aims to promote interdisciplinary approaches to sustainable land use under the challenges of climate change.
The focus is on the interactions between natural and human systems and the importance of local knowledge, particularly from indigenous communities, for developing sustainable solutions. Latin America, as a region with high biodiversity and globally significant carbon sinks such as the Amazon rainforest, plays a key role in addressing the climate crisis.
The symposium will bring together scientists and stakeholders from Göttingen and Latin America to create new networks, exchange knowledge, and develop collaborative research approaches. Planned activities include keynote presentations, interactive discussions, and public panel discussions. The mid-term goal is to produce tangible outcomes such as joint publications or policy recommendations and to prepare larger funding proposals.
